How to Make Matcha

Traditional preparation with a bamboo whisk.

Sifting matcha powder into a bowl

STEP 1. Sift the Matcha

Sift 2g of matcha into a bowl.

This helps remove any lumps and creates a smoother texture.

Mixing matcha with a small amount of hot water

STEP 2. Make a Smooth Paste

Add a small amount of hot water (70–80°C).

Mix gently with the matcha until it forms a smooth paste.

Adding hot water to matcha

STEP 3. Add the Remaining Water

Add 60–70ml of hot water (70–80°C).

Once the matcha has formed a smooth paste, pour in the remaining water.

Whisking matcha with a bamboo whisk

STEP 4. Whisk the Matcha

Whisk quickly for 30–60 seconds.

Move the whisk rapidly back and forth using your wrist, until a fine layer of foam forms on the surface.

Finished matcha in a glass

Your matcha is ready.

Enjoy it as it is, or add milk and ice for a refreshing matcha latte.
