How to Make Matcha with a NanoFoamer: No Bamboo Whisk Needed

You don’t need a traditional bamboo whisk to enjoy matcha.

With a milk frother, you can easily make iced matcha or an iced matcha latte at home.

I use the NanoFoamer to make my iced matcha. With this method, you don’t need a bamboo whisk or a matcha sifter. You don’t even need to boil water.

Here’s how I make iced matcha with the NanoFoamer ↓

Matcha Lab’s Japanese Pure Matcha has a smooth bitterness and full body, similar to espresso. It works well with milk for an iced matcha latte, but it is also delicious as a simple iced matcha with cold water and ice.

What Is the NanoFoamer?

The NanoFoamer is a handheld milk frother made by Subminimal.

It is designed to create smooth, fine milk foam for drinks such as café lattes. But thanks to its powerful spinning action, it also works very well for making matcha.

There are three main reasons why I use the NanoFoamer:

  1. Powerful high-speed mixing, so no bamboo whisk is needed
  2. No steam, so your milk does not get diluted
  3. Easy to clean and hygienic

Let’s take a closer look at each one.

1. Powerful High-Speed Mixing, No Bamboo Whisk Needed

The NanoFoamer spins at high speed, allowing it to quickly mix matcha with water.

You don’t need to dissolve the matcha in hot water and whisk it with a traditional bamboo whisk. Simply mix the matcha and water directly with the NanoFoamer to create smooth matcha.

For iced matcha, this is especially convenient because you don’t need to boil water and then cool it down.

After making the matcha, you can also use the same NanoFoamer to froth your milk.

This means one tool can handle both steps: mixing the matcha and frothing the milk.

2. No Steam, So Your Milk Does Not Get Diluted

The steam wand on an espresso machine uses steam to heat and froth milk.

The NanoFoamer, on the other hand, uses high-speed spinning to froth the milk. Because it does not use steam, no extra water is added to the milk.

This helps the milk keep its rich taste while creating a smooth, fine foam. It makes it easy to prepare a creamy matcha latte at home while still enjoying the flavor of both the matcha and the milk.

3. Easy to Clean and Hygienic

A bamboo whisk needs to be carefully washed, reshaped, and fully dried after each use. If it stays wet for too long, mold can develop, so proper drying and storage are necessary.

Bamboo whisks are also delicate. Over time, the thin bamboo tips can break or lose their shape, so the whisk needs to be replaced regularly.

The NanoFoamer is much easier to clean. Simply place the tip in water and turn it on to rinse it using its own spinning action.

With less maintenance and easy cleaning, the NanoFoamer makes it easier to enjoy iced matcha and matcha lattes every day.

How to Make Iced Matcha with a NanoFoamer

Now, let’s make iced matcha using the NanoFoamer.

You only need three ingredients:

  • Japanese Pure Matcha: 2g
  • Cold water: 150ml
  • Ice: As needed

With just matcha, you can easily make authentic iced matcha at home without a bamboo whisk or hot water.

1. Add Matcha to a Container

Use a slightly deep container to prevent the matcha from splashing while using the NanoFoamer.

There is no need to sift the matcha first.

Simply add 2g of matcha directly to the container.

2. Add Cold Water

Pour cold water into the container with the matcha.

I use about 150ml, but you can adjust the amount of water depending on how strong you like your matcha.

3. Mix with the NanoFoamer

Place the tip of the NanoFoamer fully into the water before turning it on.

Mix for about 30 seconds, until the matcha is evenly blended with the water.

Keep the tip below the surface to prevent splashing. Tilting the container slightly while mixing also makes it easier to blend the matcha smoothly.

4. Pour Over Ice

Fill a glass with ice and pour in the matcha you prepared with the NanoFoamer.

Your iced matcha is ready to enjoy.

If the flavor is too strong, simply add more cold water until you find the strength you like.

How to Make an Iced Matcha Latte with a NanoFoamer

With the NanoFoamer, you can easily make a café-style iced matcha latte at home.

Here’s what you need:

  • Japanese Pure Matcha: 2g
  • Cold water: 50ml
  • Milk or your favorite plant-based milk: 150ml
  • Ice: As needed

You can also use almond milk, soy milk, or oat milk instead of regular milk to create your favorite iced matcha latte.

1. Add Matcha to a Container

Use a slightly deep container to prevent the matcha from splashing while using the NanoFoamer.

There is no need to sift the matcha first.

Simply add 2g of matcha directly to the container.

2. Add Cold Water

Pour 50ml of cold water into the container with the matcha.

I use cold water here, but if you want a richer and creamier matcha latte, you can use milk or your favorite plant-based milk instead.

3. Mix with the NanoFoamer

Place the tip of the NanoFoamer fully into the liquid before turning it on.

Mix for about 30 seconds, until the matcha is evenly blended.

Keep the tip below the surface to prevent splashing. Tilting the container slightly while mixing also helps blend the matcha smoothly.

4. Pour Over Ice and Milk

Fill a glass with ice and add 150ml of milk or your favorite plant-based milk.

Slowly pour the matcha you prepared with the NanoFoamer over the milk.

Your iced matcha latte is ready to enjoy.

If you prefer it sweeter, add some syrup or honey and adjust the sweetness to your taste.
